Elisabeth Schiffbauer
New York Law School, J.D. 2015 Dominican University of California, B.F.A. 2010 magna cum laude
Coming from an arts background, I originally went to law school with a focus on intellectual property and fashion, but over and over again I saw workers mistreated and taken advantage of at every level of the supply chain in the fashion industry. Even just as a consumer, I felt I couldn’t look the other way and dedicated my studies to working on labor issues. Working at GSD allows me to continue to provide meaningful and rewarding service, fighting for workers.
Elisabeth joined GSD in 2022. During law school she held internships at the Model Alliance, Luxottica U.S. Holdings Corp., PVH Corp., and the International Labor Rights Forum (now GLJ-ILRF). She also served as a research assistant to Professor Emeritus Jethro K. Lieberman. After law school Elisabeth performed research on labor and human rights issues in the garment industry in Cambodia for Solidarity Center. Prior to coming to GSD, Elisabeth was counsel in the Bureau of Labor Law at the Office of the New York City Comptroller where she investigated and prosecuted violations of prevailing wage law. From March 2018 – April 2019, Elisabeth served as a Volunteer Assistant Attorney General in the Labor Bureau of the NYS Attorney General’s Office. Her article “Models: Employees or Independent Contractors?” was published on The Fashion Law.
