IT SPECIALIST

Data Analytics

Getman, Sweeney & Dunn is a law firm located in Kingston, NY specializing in large wage-and-hour class action litigation on behalf of employees (never employers). We are looking for a technology and data specialist who would enjoy applying their analytical skills in a social justice context related to workers’ wage and hour rights at a small, dynamic law office. We work as a team, and the candidate should enjoy working with our team of 8 lawyers, 7 paralegals, and 2 data science and technology specialists.

The firm primarily handles overtime and minimum wage cases and we are proud to represent workers    at all levels of financial means.  We are currently suing numerous large international companies and have recovered hundreds of millions of dollars for our clients. Summary:

Getman, Sweeney & Dunn would like to add a new full-time employee to expand our data science and technology department which is currently staffed by two people. This position requires a person with strong skills working with mathematical analysis of large datasets, writing/describing complicated concepts to non-expert clients and staff, and experience with Windows Server and workstation hardware and software.

The Range Of Tasks Will Include:

Data Retrieval

  • Analysis of a wide range of database architectures to determine methods to extract useful data
  • Write tutorials for non-tech experts describing techniques for data extraction
  • Research sector specific software tools to ascertain where useful data lies

Data Manipulation

  • Data cleansing and format manipulation
  • Creation of dynamic dashboards for use by colleagues without data science expertise
  • Modeling dynamic payroll, work hours, and legal damage calculations

IT Support

  • Support of a Windows Server infrastructure and various law firm applications
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving typical workstation and network issues
  • Support clients and research methods related to retrieval and transfer of case related data

Continued Education/Development

  • Research new tools, programming techniques, and methods
  • Training other data science team members and other staff
  • Writing narratives explaining your work for a non-datacentric audience

Core Skill Requirements:

  • Create accurate mathematical analysis and extrapolations of multi-gigabyte datasets data sets
  • High-level proficiency with Excel
  • Familiarity with R or Python
  • Familiarity with implementation of Regular Expressions
  • Understanding of database structures and SQL queries
  • Able to write clear narratives and tutorials for non-expert audience
  • Experience in troubleshooting and configuring Windows workstations and networks
  • Familiarity with Windows Server and general IT hardware and software
  • Have flexible schedule and occasionally work nights or weekends to attend to IT system needs or meet deadlines for case related work

Other Useful Skills:

  • Familiarity with a legal office environment
  • SAS, Stata, VBA, Java, C#, .Net or other programming languages
  • Machine Learning or AI methodologies that can be used to clean and interrogate data sets.
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint or other cloud-based office administration tools
  • Experience with statistical analysis and modeling

Compensation includes salary of $80,000 to $90,041 (depending on relevant experience), bonuses in profitable years, vacation and sick pay, health insurance, 401k, 18 weeks of parental leave for the birth or adoption of a child, and other benefits. This position is primarily one that requires a person with versatile technology skills in Windows Server (on-premises) and workstation hardware and software, 365/Teams/SharePoint, backups, networks, and web skills.

The Range Of Tasks Will Include:

IT Infrastructure Support

  • Support of a Windows Server infrastructure and various law firm applications
  • Backup and file storage maintenance
  • WSUS
  • Powershell
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving typical workstation and network issues
  • Support clients and research methods related to retrieval and transfer of case-related data
  • Support of 20 on-premises and remote users, workstations and laptops

Case/Marketing Tech Support

  • File conversion and manipulation
  • Web scraping
  • Power Automate
  • Various Windows applications
  • Work related to damage calculations in coordination with Data Scientists

Development

  •  Research new tools, programming techniques, and methods to deploy in workplace
  • Training staff on new workplace technologies

Core Skill Requirements

  • Experience in configuring and troubleshooting Windows Server, workstations and networks
  • Knowledge of general Windows IT hardware and software
  • Familiarity with Regular Expressions
  • Knowledge of Powershell
  • High-level proficiency with Excel and Word
  • Able to write clear narratives and tutorials for non-expert audience
  • Have flexible schedule and occasionally work nights or weekends to attend to IT system needs or meet deadlines for case-related work
