Jason L. Steuerwald

Cornell Law School, J.D. 2023 American University, B.A. Justice and Law 2019

As the first lawyer in my family, I am deeply proud to work with GSD to advocate for the rights of workers. My grandparents immigrated to the United States with nothing but a few dollars in their pocket and an unstoppable work ethic. Through years of working in factories and shops, they were able to build an incredible life for themselves and their family. They instilled in me the values of hard work, service, honesty, and integrity. Those are the pillars I was raised on and that led me to a career in social justice lawyering. When companies blatantly disregard those values by committing wage theft, they are taking money out of the hands of workers and their families – people just like my grandparents. A refusal to play fair at the cost of working people is an affront to justice and everything I believe in. That is why I am so passionate about the work here at GSD, holding employers accountable and standing with workers in the fight for fair pay.

Jason joined GSD as an associate in 2025. Prior to joining the firm, he was an Assistant Public Defender at the Dutchess County Public Defender’s Office. In that role, he represented parents in a variety of family court proceedings. Jason graduated from Cornell Law School in 2023. While in law school, he was involved with a variety of clinics, practicums, and student organizing efforts. Jason was part of a group of students who coordinated a response and founded a clinic to work with individuals and families impacted by the fall of Kabul in 2021, providing assistance with humanitarian parole and asylum applications to those fleeing from the Taliban. As a New York Pro Bono Scholar, he spent his final semester advocating full-time on behalf of workers and unions with the Cornell Labor Law Clinic. Before law school, Jason worked as an outreach consultant with the New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund where he helped food pantries across the state address the exponential spike in food insecurity caused by the pandemic.
