Fighting for Fair Pay

Trump Judge Blocks Overtime Pay for 4 million Workers – Posted November 18, 2024

On November 15, a federal judge in Texas blocked a rule that would have expanded overtime pay to millions of salaried workers throughout the US. The Biden administration finalized the new rule, which would provide overtime pay to any worker making $58,656 per year or less, earlier this year. The new rule was set to go into effect next year.

U.S. District Judge Sean Jordan, a Trump appointee, ruled that the Labor Department could not prioritize wages over job duties when determining overtime eligibility. The $35,568 overtime threshold, set by the Trump administration, is now set to go back into effect. This means approximately 4 million workers will lose their right to overtime pay.
